Global II is a graduation requirement because.....
Global History 2 is a graduation requirement because it is much more than just studying the world. Although we learned so much about different cultures and time periods, we also grew as students and global citizens.
As a student I have strengthened many skills that will be extremely useful throughout the course of my life. One of these skills is speaking and forming an opinion. Going into the course, I had not been required to always form an opinion on a specific topic or share my ideas properly. With all the practice thanks to global 2, I am so much more able to state my ideas with a group and feel confident with my statement. Not only have I become confident with forming my opinion, I am also able to support it with many ideas. Backing up ideas is a concept that I will use for the rest of my life in future schools and jobs. Without global 2, I feel as though I would not feel as prepared as I am to enter the rest of my life where I feel need to voice my opinion and communicate my ideas to others.
Another aspect that makes global 2 a graduation requirement, is turnings us all into globally aware citizens. Throughout the course of the class, I have learned to many concepts that have broadened my perspective of different cultures. This was seen during the genocide unit where I was able to study the Armenian genocide into a greater depths. This study allowed for me to focus on the Armenian genocide and how many people were affected my many genocides which I never even previously heard of. This allowed me to understand the culture further and see the progress they have made in order to rebuild after such a horrific event. Also, we spent many weeks learning about the different countries involved within the Cold War. Previous to going into the class I had really only thought that the United States and Soviet Union were the only two in this war, however after learning more I realized how it seems as thought the majority of the rst of the world was also involved in some way. We focused on Afghanistan, Korea, Nicaragua, Turkey, Egypt, and Vietnam. By learning about all of these different country's involvement, I understand much more how they were affected by the previous wars and more about the history of each country. I grew in my understanding towards how many struggles each individual country had and how they related to the United States.
