My favorite piece of history/social studies is..............

Throughout the class we studied many different topics. If I had to choose my favorite unit studied, I would choose genocides. The genocide unit was such an interesting unit for me because it made me think. When people think about history class, many would think of memorizing, dates, and people. This unit completely contradicts the stereotype because it not only shared information, it made the class think about the mental state of so many, but it also had us think about the reasons for why do the actions they do. We studied the Holocaust and also individual smaller genocides. How do u define a genocide? This question continues to fog my mind because how does someone define such an action? There is no number or action in which an event can be qualified for because so many different people have differing views on it. Also, it is extremely interesting to me to think about the mindset of the people going through the events and how they stayed so optimistic. It is amazing to see the extreme level the people had to go to in order to save their family and their lives. It is impossible to understand the mindset or relate to the people who suffered these events. It also makes me question how people can commit such horrific acts on specific groups of people. The shocking element of how someone can take away everything form someone, including their family, and even their name, amazing me.
I included the work in which I contributed to the class project because this project I feel as though we did the best work with. Throughout the project, we decided to make a scrapbook that included all real artwork and journal entries from the people would who suffered the holocaust. I also made small ID cards in order to tell a background on the people. I choose to research kids and the more I researched the more I ended up wanted to learn about them since I could relate to them. I am a teenager just as they were, and having to see their suffering made me understand them so much more. |
